Juicing 101

What is juicing? A process that pulls the liquid from fresh fruits and vegetables. It usually withdraws most of the solid matter, like seeds, skin and pulp, from whole fruits and vegetables. From my research I’ve found that it’s beneficial because when juicing you are able to receive a healthy dose of nutrients that are easily absorbed.

Of course there are pros and cons with any restrictive diet. However I juiced for 40 days back in June and honestly it was extremely rewarding! I must make mention that I am not a health nutritionist, dietician or medical professional. If you’re interested in taking on a cleanse please consult with your doctor because “different strokes for different folk”.

So here’s the tea, for about three months (March- Late June), I took a leave from work because of the pandemic. I stayed home, ate, binged watched Netflix, slept then ate again. I gained so much weight, the quarantine 25 to be exact.....yikes, i know. I decided to go on a cleanse, after watching fat, sick and nearly dead along with researching quick and effective ways to lose weight.

Initially I thought to juice for about 3 days just to give my body a reset and proper cleanse. Chiiilleee, 3 days turned into 5, 5 into 7, 7 into 10 ; and before you know it, I had only consumed raw fruits and vegetables in their liquid form for 40 days! Yes, 40, I couldn’t believe it either.

Honestly, the first 3 days were the hardest. By day 7 my body felt lighter, I had mental clarity like never before and my skin was glowing! It was hard for me to stop after realizing how it’s much more than weight loss when juicing. The cleanse helped physically, yet the mental and spiritual aspect of it was also gratifying.

I am strong believer in taking care of your body so it will take care of you. Yes, carbs, sweets and comfort foods are great, I get it trust! Still in all, too much of it can cause you to feel sluggish, foggy, and just lazy, at least that was my case.

While juicing I made sure to incorporate the 80/20 rule as much I could. That’s 80% of veggies, 20% fruit just to ensure you’re not consuming too many sugars. I utilized a Breville 70 oz. Juice Fountain Cold Juicer. I believe it retails for about $140.

If you’re thinking about starting a cleanse make use of Google for the best juicing recipes. The Breville juicer also comes with a booklet of different juices to make and it’s benefits to the body. Also, start small, try it for a day then gradually increase but most importantly listen to your body as it will tell you when it’s time to stop.

Make note, I have many supporters of different shapes and sizes. Please know that being healthy doesn’t necessarily mean being smaller in size. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. This is solely for inspiration to those who are interested in juicing, boosting your immune system and resetting the body. Love the skin you’re in & stay healthy!
